A GROWING CULTURE

Hemp is in full swing across North America and the area under cultivation is increasing year after year in both the United States and Canada.
This is not surprising considering the oil from this plant can be added to any food, giving it superior nutritional value as well as a unique taste that enhances a dish’s flavour. Moreover, this same hemp oil is a perfect complement to wellness products. From the myriad of applications, skin creams and hair care products spring immediately to mind.
Animal products are not to be outdone. In fact, many food products infused with hemp oil are at the top of sales in Quebec pet stores. The same is true for accessories made from hemp, given the exceptional resistance of this plant’s fibre.
In recent years, even the textile industry and the construction sector have turned to hemp. The fibre of its stem is used, among other things, to produce soft and resistant clothing with antibacterial properties. It is even possible to manufacture concrete blocks that are particularly durable and practical for the repair of our infrastructures.
The recent arrival of cannabidiol-based (CBD) products on the shelves of the Société Québécoise du Cannabis is also a dream come true for hemp producers and processors in our province. Because of its possible therapeutic properties, this non-hallucinogenic cannabinoid is a hot topic in both North America and Europe. CBD is present in hemp plants and can be extracted with the correct equipment.
In such a dynamic context, it is essential to promote the cultivation of hemp in Quebec. The group La Feuille Verte is thus making it a point of honour to promote the development of this industry that is both eco-responsible and worthy of the 21st century.
